Safety Awareness at USUKI Shipyard
a reminder speech from: Capt. DS Tampus
President
Bridge Marine Corporation
Safety Awareness at USUKI Shipyard:
a: Strictly abide the Japanese Cultures and strictly obey the Rules and Regulation.
Note that normally, Shipyard will not apprehend crew but instead they will report to Owners.
Thus, it will be a shame for us towards our Owners if crew had some non-compliance or
violation.
b: Do not use any bicycle without the Owner’s consent.
- Better to walk rather than being apprehended.
c: Considering the M/T SILVER NEREIS delivery on 10th Aug. 2023 (Thursday), before that,
she is under the Shipyard property until being handed over to our Ship Owner.
Meaning to say, operations and any works to do by crew’s hand must be dealt or notified to Owners respectively for the Shipyard early understanding. Close coordination must be assess always in advance to prevent any accident (state sample of a visitor from Charterer suffered injuries after falling down from Ballast Pump Room Top to the Bottom floor).
REMINDER to reduce work load before sailing:
1: Responsible Officers must stand like an inspector. Make a regular list of observed deficiencies during rounds and report to Master. Please minimize to report by verbal instead do it by paper reporting to prevent for being missed and forgotten.
2: Make in advance the markings thru “rubber markings”. Concern crew must do overtime of doing it in the hotel.
3: Garbage disposal while at shipyard especially for plastic waste and garbage that has risk to have fire (Ex: cartoons).
- Normally garbage management is more improved only when vessel sailed. Additional drums are set later. Thus, keeping much garbage on board has a risk of being flown overboard or to the sea.
4: Greasing.
-Especially lifeboat wires and gangway wires considering its risk to fall overboard when at sea.
-Mooring gears and winches.
5: Securing on added appliances on board especially computers.
-Perhaps, shipyard normally assist securing before delivery or departure.
6: Cross check on loss bolts and presents of bonding cable.
One of the risk on board is of the crew’s attitude of having being afraid of telling
what he had seen and observed. As said,
It’s better to have a discussion or even argumentation to find good ways for the safe operation and navigation of the vessel rather than facing an investigation.
Accident can be prevented by having at first and always the Risk Assessment and Safety Meeting.
If you have any doubt, please message to me
(Capt. Tampus / President of BMC) anytime in order to correct things that is best for our Team.
Good luck and all best to maintain the ZERO ACCIDENT industry.

Safety Reminder Relating to COVID-19
a reminder speech from: Capt. DS Tampus
President
Bridge Marine Corporation
a: Since COVID-19 is not yet declared endemic, human remains in trauma of COVID infection up to this time.
b: Since you are entering Japan (Usuki Shipyard), we need to show good reputation so that you will not be a suspect for spreading any infection.
Please do the following etiquette until the SILVER NEREIS is safely delivered:
Please consider to have face mask available in your hand for immediate use.
- Once you have any COVID symptoms (cough, running nose, fever, sore throat or gums) please inform the Medical Officer at once so that medication will be administer for immediate curing and/or treatment.
- If not necessary, do not go close to the shipyard workers unless they called you for a friendly greetings.
Avoid hand shaking for the time being. Instead, show respect by bow.
- Do not spit on deck. Instead, please bring a small towel where you will spit. Please clean this small towel regularly.
- Do not cough nearby Japanese workers. If you have cough, please go to a toilet or to your room to do coughing. Please regularly gargle. You can gargle using Bactidol or Betadiene and Warm water with salt.
- For more assurance to avoid sore throat, please a habit of executing toothbrush with iodized salt. Itchy throat & nose, means you have infection (either COVID or flu???)
Facemask and Oxygen Management:
1) Use facemask 1 each per day and dispose it properly. Consider that facemask is a virus catcher, thus manage it in order to keep you healthy.
2) Take note that every 100% of air we breath, we only need 21% oxygen. The other 79% (Nitrogen and other gases are toxic for us).
3) Need to empower yourself by doing a good solution how to make your immune strong. You can easily learn references thru Goggle.
Note that any related COVID occurrence (or being sick on board) is a very difficult situation especially for newly delivery of vessel since human support is very important for setting up and preparations especially for any Oil Major inspection and keeping the vessel’s safe navigation and operation.
Please remain safe and healthy always.
